Since the passing
They now not the living
Seeing not the life-giving
Forces without spouses
Walking
Heads drooping
Sticklike
figures from famous painting
Faces faint
With spirit missing
Sadness spilling

We the dead living
Terminal, terrible
Disease-ridden
Positivists looking
For new songs
Animated faces
Telling of miracles
Light shining
From prayerful communion
Playful with children
Baking, singing

Grief prolonged
Like winter past
its season
Howling and biting, spitting
hail, blowing
hot and cold
confounding
all around with
fretting, a-sniffling
forgetting
The flowers are here
